Men of the Stacks

October 4, 2011 § 1 Comment

With paperback book sales down and e-book readers on the rise, I imagine that librarians are probably not getting a lot of action these days… unless you are one of these men.

What can be better than men who facilitate the appreciation of art creating their own art… which happens to feature little clothing? Okay, in all seriousness, this is pretty ridiculous, and maybe someone should school a few of these guys in the art of sexy, but if these male librarians are out to break the librarian stereotype for a good cause, don’t you think it should be for something to do with literacy or writing?

Perhaps I’m thinking too logically for anything to do with a sexy calendar, but what do you think: can sex "sell" library cards?

§ One Response to Men of the Stacks

  • Megan Perez says:

No, I don’t think so. Raising over $7,200 in 10 days for an international cause is a much more powerful statement about librarianship’s scope than donating to a typical campaign for reading, teens, literacy or even digital considerations. That would be taking the literal, traditional approach. Don’t you see? That’s exactly the image we are trying to get away from. We are capable of much more than teaching people how to read and search a database.
