NEW!!! YouTube Symphony Orchestra

October 13, 2010 § Leave a comment

That’s how it was announced yesterday by the newspapers. This is really not the first time YouTube assembles an orchestra. “Launched on December 1, 2008, it is the first-ever online collaborative orchestra.” This is the second time but they are new musicians. The artists that want to be part of the orchestra will have to “submit a video audition for the orchestra or submit a solo improvisation to a piece composed specifically for the orchestra by American composer Mason Bates”. Anyone who wishes to audition for the 2011 edition would have to submit a video by November 28th and the YouTube viewers will vote, from December 10th – 17th, on them in order to decide who is playing.

The orchestra will reunite for about one week when the selected musicians, who have to be amateurs, will participate in rehearsals and attend master classes provided by Australian and world renowned musicians. The activities will end with a performance in March 20th, 2011 at the Sydney Opera House in Australia under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, Founder and Artistic Director of the New World Symphony, Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and YouTube Symphony Artistic Advisor.
