The Fine Arts Fund’s New Direction: ArtsWave

September 23, 2010 § 1 Comment

After 61 years as the Fine Arts Fund, Cincinnati’s arts fund will now be known as ArtsWave. The new name and expanded mission are intended to promote the broader benefits that arts and culture provide for a community. Today’s announcement has already been met with some opposition, but I think the changes set up ArtsWave to go in an important direction. With diminishing audience numbers and increased competition for funding, arts organizations need to reach out to the public to convey their importance. ArtsWave is doing just that. They are creating awareness about and giving support to the arts organizations that link people together and create community and economic vitality. ArtsWave will give the Greater Cincinnati area better access to these organizations and other arts and culture experiences. They will bring the arts to the people, and this is essential to promoting the arts as beneficial to all. I’m excited to see how ArtsWave embraces its new name and mission in the coming years.
